Ground Anchors

Ground Anchors

Ground Anchors are installed to 'tie-back' retaining wall systems temporarily or permanently. In an excavation where strutting will be installed, the front of a retaining wall (contiguous bored pile, sheet pile etc) must be anchored first to attain stability and to prevent collapse.

Temporary ground anchors must be installed first into the ground to tie-back the retaining wall. Upon completion of the strutting, the anchors will be removed. Permanent ground anchors are installed to permanently tie-back a retaining wall where additional force is required to stabilise it. An example is a sheet-pile wall where stability against collapse is important. Permanent ground anchors can be installed into the soil and tied to a waler on the wall to brace it.
